The Long Dark: Big release August 1

The Long Dark: Big release August 1

Looking forward to it!

The Long Dark, which has been in development and early beta sandbox release since 2013, is finally launching for real on August 1. This launch will see the unveiling of the Story Mode for the first time, with the first two chapters being released. (The remaining chapters of the story will reportedly be released between now and the end of 2018.)

The official launch will also include major updates to the survival mode, including an "opt-in" map system,

Game development studio Hinterland made a big splash in 2013 with their Kickstarter campaign. The Kickstarter raised a considerable amount of money, and unlike other Kickstarted video games, players soon began to see results. It's been a long road to the official launch, but honestly four years is a pretty reasonable development time for a full-fledged video game.

I bought into the game in the second wave, and got access to the game in September of that year. I enjoyed survival mode up to a point, but eventually I gave it up as being too stressful. I liked the setting, and I really loved the art style.

I have been waiting for the game's story mode for years, and I'm looking forward to finally being able to play the proper game. Congratulations to Hinterland for making it to launch!
