Chucklefish developers discuss Spellbound

Upcoming offering is a magic school RPG

You may know Chucklefish as the publisher of indie title Stardew Valley. Chucklefish has a lot of upcoming projects, but one in particular has caught my eye: Spellbound, a magic school RPG that looks incredible.

The game's visuals are fantastic, with the sort of intricate pixel art detail that made Stardew Valley so welcoming. Chucklefish has been focusing on how to make "a game world that really hits home, [that] I just want to spend my time in."

This visual aesthetic is paired with a surprisingly rich set of mechanics involving NPC personalities and relationships, well beyond the simplistic mechanics underlying dating in most RPGs.

The game's combat is designed to hearken back to old 2D Zelda games, but with a modern flair.

Apparently the game world has been created and is almost complete, the lore of the world has been fleshed out, and their cast of characters is complete. However, Chucklefish still faces several years more of development before Spellbound will be ready for the public.
